HOW'D I LIVE WITHOUT: Facial Products

I've been really stepping up my ~beauty~ routine in the past couple of years. Would you believe me if I told you I didn't wash my face regularly until.... college?! I remember hating the way the face scrub I got from Target when I was 13 made me feel, so I just stopped using it! It never even occurred to me to simply switch brands! Thankfully, a mix of good-genes and birth control made it so I didn't really need to wash my face cosmetically. Makeup remover was good enough for me!

...but then I got to college. And a combination of late night eating, alcohol, new environments, dirty roommates and not having a mom (or the quarters) to wash my pillowcases regularly got to me. My friend let me try some of her face wash and I remember feeling like I had just exfoliated years off my face.

I've slowly been adding to my facial routine ever since and oooomg I can't believe I went (lived!) so long without these products!

Exfoliating pad // This might be my all-time favorite CVS purchase. I'm obsessed!! I try not to use my in-shower exfoliating facial scrub too much to keep it from drying out my face, but on days when I don't shower I still love to exfoliate at night, especially after a day of wearing makeup and working out and touching my face and who knows what else. This little guy does the trick! I didn't take mine home over the holidays and I (and my face) was seriously missing it.

Toner // The most underrated beauty product ever! I use toner after masks and after using my in-shower facial scrub if I shower at night. I generally shower earlier in the evenings (between working out and cooking dinner) so it's too early to put on my night time moisturizing cream, but I still need some hydrating goodness! This does the trick, and helps even out my blotchy skin tone.

Coconut oil // I only use coconut oil on my face once a week, usually on Sundays. But every Monday morning I wake up and my face is so smooth and nourished. Coconut oil can definitely be tricky on skin, but since my skin (especially in the winter) tends to be on the drier side, I don't break out. That being said, my forehead is so big and definitely the oiliest part of my face so I NEVER put coconut oil on it! I stick to regular lotion/night cream.

Overnight moisturizing mask // I bought this on the same trip to CVS as the exfoliating pad... might be the best CVS trip ever. I struggled to find a moisturizer that I felt comfortable leaving on overnight and letting it sink into my skin, but not causing me to breakout. This 100000% works for me! It smells amazing and I genuinely look forward to putting it on every night before bed. I wake up and wash my face and my skin is smooth and hydrated!

Clay masks // Definitely a treat yo' self-item, but not sure how I lived 22 years without trying out clay masks! I love love love these L'Oreal pure-clay masks. I have the charcoal (detox/brighten) and the green one (purify/mattify), and I definitely want to try the blue (clear/comfort) one next. What I love about these masks vs. other masks is that you can use them more than once, and mix and match! For example, I love using the charcoal mask under my eyes and around my nose, and the mattifying mask on my forehead.

Are there any facial products I need to try? I'm still looking for the perfect addition to my routine that gets rid of dark undereye circles! I'm all for suggestions.

  4. oooh yeah. Skincare is my jam, welcome to the club haha. I love a good clay mask, for when my skin is being annoying and breaking out I always do a mask to give it that extra boost of care!

  6. I hate to admit it but I didn't wash my face before college either...sounds so gross but my skin didn't act up so I didn't know I needed to do anything. I like overnight moisturizing masks in the winter months when my skin can get super dry. I am obsessed with skincare now which is funny coming from the girl who didn't do anything for so long!

  7. I have become so obsessed with skincare in the last two years. I absolutely love Freeman masks! I had no idea they came out with a sleeping mask. I currently use a few different sleeping masks and lip masks, but I definitely want to pick that one up now.

  10. OMG same here! I never used skincare products until the start of college. I always envy those people with naturally smooth skin. Now that I start using skincare products, I can't live without them!
