Bye, 2017! Hello 2018.

Ok, this year totally flew by! This time last year, I was so excited to see 2016 come to an end, and honestly, I feel the same way about 2017. Although this year was full of huge life changes and new beginnings, I still feel like the best is yet to come. (Which I suppose is a good feeling to have!)

I'm currently in Orlando with my family for a football bowl game, and then Universal on Friday! I'm soooo excited to go to Harry Potter world! For now, I wanted to share some highlights from the year.

The biggest, most obvious change this year was packing up all of my belongings and moving halfway across the country from Atlanta to Oklahoma to start my first job!

I spent a lot of time in 2017 wondering what I was going to do with my life (at least for now). I loved the social media internship I had during the spring, but it didn't turn out the way I was expecting it to re: hiring, so I really felt pretty lost during the middle of the year.

After months and months of applying for jobs and interviewing and getting nowhere, I finally got (four) job offers at the beginning of July. The position I'm currently at was the best one for me by far! Even though I feel like I complain about living in a small, rural town a lot, I truly am thankful that they took a chance on me. I love the fact that each day at my job is different, and that I can push the boundaries of what's expected of social media in higher education while still growing as a professional. I know I won't stay in Oklahoma very long, but this will definitely be a huge stepping stone when looking for a new job or applying for graduate school.

2017 was definitely an off-year friendship wise. Between graduating college early and moving to Oklahoma, my friends are really all over the place! However, despite being far away from my friends, I think the distance has strengthened most of my friendships! I now definitely have to make an effort to reach out to old friends and check in on them, which has made me a better, more caring person.

It's no secret that I love to travel, and if I could have any job in the world I would 100% be a travel blogger (mixing fashion, food and history/culture together ideally). Unfortunately, 2017 didn't allow for too much travel. Actually, both times I really traveled this year were to Colorado! First I went skiing with my dad in Breckenridge and then I took a trip with my mom to Colorado Springs when I thought I might be moving there for a job!

I'm planning on sharing my specific 2018 goals/plans in a separate post, but for now, I'll just say that I hope to make some big moves forward next year! I already have some exciting trips planned (think Charlottesville, Spain + Morocco, and Portugal!!!) which I'm really looking forward to. I also hope to post more, promote more posts on my personal social media (makes me nervous!), and take my health more seriously.

Cheers to a great year, and to the future!

  1. Enjoy your time in Orlando! I'm glad to hear about all the great things in 2017 - I have a feeling 2018 will be even better!

  2. Hope you have the best time in Orlando and hope 2018 is just as good or better to you!

  3. Isn't it hard when all of your besties live far away? But at the same time- you learn who your true friends are and who puts in the effort to keep in touch!! I can totally relate to so many of your moving struggles (I feel like I say that on all of your posts- haha!). Here's to a great 2018! I'm hoping for more travel next year too!

    xoxo A

    1. So true!!! Pros and cons of moving for sure!

  4. Wow sounds like 2018 is going to be a great year for you!

  5. I can relate to your 2017 reflection on so many levels. This past year has certainly been one filled with transitions. I'm so happy to hear that your big move has been a positive experience for you. I remember back in August we were co-miserating about how "lovely" the job search is as recent graduates.

    Enjoy your break!

  6. I can't wait to hear about your trip to Spain! Such a fun place to visit :)

  7. The first year out of college is tough! I had no clue what I wanted to do! You'll get there and I bet 2018 will be amazing!

  8. Cheers to 2018! Hope it's a great year.

  9. The transition from graduation to moving is so hard in the friendship department! I remember struggling to find a balance with friendships when we moved away from each other.

  10. Finding a job can be a real struggle. I'm sure 2018 will bring amazing things for you!

  11. Now that I have graduated, my friends and I are all over the place too. For us the distance between us has definitely strengthen our friendship!

  12. Oh my gosh all of your planned trips sound amazing, I want to travel more this year too!!

  13. if you ever make your way down to Dallas, let me know :)

  14. Can't wait to hear about your trips in the new year! that is seriously so exciting!
