I turn 23 today! I don't consider myself a big birthday person, but I love reflecting on the past year and looking forward to a new one. This past year was also my "golden year" - though it wasn't too golden most of the time, ha!
This year was an interesting one for me. I ended 21 thinking that there was no way that my 22nd year could suck nearly as much as my 21st year did. Between friendships ending, life plans changing, and feeling stuck nearly the entire year, I was so ready to put 21 behind me and welcome 22 with open arms.
I mean, my 22nd year was going to be a big one, full of huge life events. (Sort of.)
I graduated college. A semester early. With honors.
I went to Hong Kong/Macau.
My grandpa passed away.
I started to figure out what I really wanted to do with my life, changed my mind, changed it again, started an internship where I thought I knew what I wanted, didn't get hired on after. Changed my mind again.
Realized just how much I love photography and traveling.
Got a real job. Moved halfway across the country to Oklahoma. Two and a half months later, I'm still there... but still figuring out what I want to do with the rest of my life.
For the most part, though, my 22nd year on Earth was pretty boring. Aside from a few life changes, most days were pretty mundane. That's not to say I had a bad year by any means, I mean compared to my 21st year this was the dream! But it's funny how we go into a year with expectations, and even when they pan out (or don't), we slowly start to realize what we actually want (or don't want).
I'm hesitant to list out some of my expectations for 23 because if 22 taught me anything, it's to be open to the ways of the universe... but I can't help myself. So here we go!
During my 23rd year I will:
Watch two of my best friends marry the loves of their lives (and try not to compare my timeline to theirs).
Apply to graduate school for something I'm passionate about (and hopefully be accepted).
Continue to say YES more (but listen to my anxieties all the same.)
Be open to change, get back up when knocked down, put my personal well-being first, and continue fighting the good fight.
Here's to another year dancing through life!

Loved getting a peek at your 22nd year! I'm so ready to be 22, as my 21st hasn't been the greatest, either. Good luck with everything, girl! xx

Even though you said most of year 22 was boring, it sounds like it was a pretty milestone year for you. Lots of traveling and graduating - what an awesome accomplishment! And it looks like you have a lot to look forward to in year 23. Happy birthday!

ReplyDeleteHappy birthday! 22 has been an alright year for me. I'm a third of the way through and I at least feel like I'm starting to get my life together. You can't compare yourself to others, the only thing you can do is what's right for your life. Here's to finding out what you love and moving forward with that knowledge!
ReplyDeleteWow! You had a big year. Congrats on graduating early.
ReplyDeleteWhat a year! Congrats on your Travel and discovering your love for photography. Happy birthday!
