10 Things

Good morning everyone, and happy Friday! I unexpectedly have today off for fall break, so I'm using it to visit my friend Kelsey in Dallas! I'm excited to get out of Oklahoma and have a fun weekend with a familiar face.

I've had a few thoughts rolling around in my head recently so I just wanted to put them in the universe.

  1. Running outside is so much harder than running on a treadmill! There's a lake near me, and on Wednesday I decided to run there instead of in the gym since it was a nice day and fall is almost over. OMG. I was struggling! Kind of upsetting knowing that I've been "training" recently. I feel back at square one honestly.
  2. I've been super into Project Runway this year. I used to watch it in college when one of my roommates had it on, and I always liked it, this is just the first year I've actively watched it on my own.
  3. I cooked something new on Wednesday without following a recipe and it was actually really good! I took a bunch of fresh veggies and some taco seasoned turkey meat and made burrito bowls! I was really proud of myself for not burning down my apartment.
  4. That being said... I know rice is supposed to be easy to cook but I'm really bad at it. I feel like it's overcooked or undercooked every time even when I follow the instructions exactly. In general, that's why I stick to pasta but I've been trying to be healthier!
  5. I really need to get my nails done but I don't want to pay $25 for a pedicure. I'd rather save that money or spend it on food!
  6. Adding on to that, I really need to create a budget! I gave myself a month and a half since I moved here to build my checking account back up after not having an income for a few months. I want to have a pretty aggressive monthly savings goal too so I can use that money to travel still. However, I have no idea how to go about creating a budget or savings plan.
  7. One thing I really miss about having friends (or living at home) is trying new restaurants! Stillwater doesn't have a ton, but there are a couple I have been eyeing. I know I could just go alone, but that's no fun!
  8. The Google Calendar update is so chic! I love the redesign. Google Calendar is literally my life. I use it for everything: meetings, reminders, TV shows, blog content, etc. It's crazy and super color-coded.
  9. Next semester I'm going to enroll in a graduate course at Oklahoma State! I get a discount through my job, so why not? I also think it will be a great chance to meet people and make friends. Now I'm just trying to decide if I go mass communications or political science. Any thoughts? I love both and would eventually want to study a combination of the two down the road.
  10. I'm really looking forward to the holidays this year. It will be the first year that I'm not spending Thanksgiving (my favorite holiday - and the day after my birthday) with my dad's side of the family. That will be a little strange, but I have family in Oklahoma so I will at least be eating the meal somewhere! Then I have 10 days off around Christmas, so I'll be flying back home to Atlanta then. I already can't wait!

I want to do a Q&A for my birthday post this year! I'm going to start gathering questions now... so if you have any that you want answered, leave them in the comments below!

  1. I still haven't gotten the Google calendar update. All the pics I've seen of it look so fun. I'm glad you'll get a lot of time to spend with your fam around Christmas!! Go to a restaurant by yourself! It's not that bad :) (Also side note, I have a few free budget downloads in my resource library if you're interested!)

  2. Yay for trying new recipes! I used to be pretty good with trying new ones but life has been so busy lately I've been slacking big time!

  3. I can SO relate to #5. I finally spent $40 on one of those at-home gel systems and seriously have not looked back! It's beyond easy, it looks like a real salon manicure, and my manicures last 3 weeks! WINNING!

  4. I feel the same! I love getting my nails done. But I prefer that money to use it in other things.

  5. Enjoy your time off over Christmas. I hate paying for pedicures but they look so good when they are professionally done.

  7. OK I love this format of blogging. I feel like so many bloggers (myself included) have got away from the old school write down your thoughts blogging style! This was so fun to read. I, too, cannot cook rice to save my life. And unfortunately, rice is a staple in Zimbabwean food. So my husband and I eat rice often. It's embarrassing that I can never cook rice right! I prefer to stick to pastas as well. ;)

  8. WHY IS RICE SO HARD TO COOK??? My fiancé has a rice cooker so I just leave it to him.

  9. GIRL, I've been trying to transition to running outside and my body is just like "lol, nope." I'm trying to train for my first 5K!

Also on the rice note, if you eat a lot of rice I recommend getting a rice cooker (v. Asian, I know.) It's a life changer and so easy. Just throw everything in there, turn it on and walk away!
