3 Book Recommendations

I love books. One of the best parts about having graduated college is that I feel like I finally have more free time to spend reading than I have had in the past 4 years! I always managed to find time to read a few books over summer and winter breaks, but they were usually books I had read before. (My go-to is To Kill A Mockingbird or any of the Harry Potter novels.)

It's been a while since I've read a book that I couldn't put down - and this summer I've found THREE!

All the Light We Cannot See // This book had been on my reading list for so long and I finally got around to reading it this summer. It did not disappoint. I wanted to read this book because I had read that it was a World War II fiction, which is one of my all-time favorite genres of books... but this is a very unique version. Without giving much away, it's about a German boy who is a Nazi engineer, a blind French girl living in an occupied town, and a cursed diamond that a Nazi sergeant wants. It goes back and forth in time and in point of view, so it's not a very "easy" read (I wouldn't take it to the beach for mindless reading), but the way the story is told is so good and I can see what all the hype is about! (And why the novel won a Pulitzer Prize!)

The Good Girl // This is definitely a book that I would take to the beach for mindless reading. While I enjoyed reading the book and found it hard to put down (literally read it in less than a day), the story is sort of predictable overall. That being said, if you enjoy thriller books, you might like this one. People compared it to Gone Girl and I disagree with that (Gone Girl is better), but the ending to The Good Girl is definitely a twist I didn't see coming!

The Boys in the Boat // Another of my favorite genres for books and movies are Olympic stories and overcoming adversity. This book is just that! It's a little slow at the start, but does a good job of getting people who could care less about rowing (hi!) to be into the sport and the story of the boat. I also think this book doesn't compare with the intense emotions of the other two books I've listed here because, hello, it's true and the outcome of the race is written on the cover, but the story is amazing nonetheless.

What are some books you've been reading this summer? I just got a library card and need lots of recommendations!

  12. I'm ALWAYS looking for new books to add to my To Read List! These are great recommendations, I'll be sure to look in to them further. :) I've read a few books that I've really enjoyed recently, but they've all more or less been in the romance genre and I'm not sure if that's the kind of thing you enjoy reading based on these books here haha.
